曾几何时，广场舞已经变成全国大中小城市大妈们茶余饭后的重要娱乐方式，在小区楼下、公园空地甚至是大街上，大妈们随着“你是我的小呀小苹果，怎么爱你都不嫌多”翩翩起舞，成为了一道独特的风景。就连曾经沉迷于麻将的本蟹他娘也已经改邪归正，加入了广场舞大军，健体又瘦身，这也未尝不是好事*_*。

我们今天就来看一下“广场舞”用地道的英语怎么说。首先来看两段来自BBC的新闻节选（很有意思，请大家仔细阅读*_*）：

其实答案已经非常清楚了，public square dancing 就是广场舞（有些地方也简单地说成square dancing），而square dancer 就是跳广场舞的人。
新闻中还说...they've even gone international，可见广场舞如今愈演愈烈，已经冲出国门，走向世界——大妈们居然在巴黎的卢浮宫前以及莫斯科的红场都跳过广场舞！

说到square，我们很容易想起孙楠的《不见不散》的歌词——不见不散，be there or be square 。那么问题来了，如果“不见不散”真的叫be there or be square，那么它为什么又和square（广场）有关呢？
吐槽一下，孙楠唱there的/ð/的时候没有咬舌尖，唱成了zere*_*。
MacMillan English Dictionary - American有一个词条是这样解释square的：someone who is square is boring because they do not wear fashionable clothes or have fashionable interests。也就是说，square可以作形容词来形容人，意思是“穿衣服很土，而且兴趣爱好也很土，因此很没意思”。原来，如果说一个人很square，那么这个人就是彻头彻尾的土包子啊*_*。
由此看来，be there or be square最原本的意思就是“要么你到那里去，要么你就是个土包子”，其中be和be照应，there和square押尾韵，是一句朗朗上口的俗语。谁愿意被别人称作土包子呢？所以就一定要到“那里”去，也就是“不见不散”，“那里”就是双方约定的地点。

Nowadays it is quite common that people, including the elderly as well as some young people, take part in the square dance due to the fact that people’s material and spiritual civilization develop rapidly.
